Dr. Roser Vento-Tormo, a researcher in the Cellular Genetics program at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, has been selected as a finalist for the 2023 Michelson Philanthropies & Science Prize for Immunology for her essay titled "Decoding Foreign Antigen Tolerance."

Dr. Vento-Tormo and her VentoLab team are using cutting-edge genomics and imaging tools to create physical environments that replicate organs such as the placenta or testis. By using machine-learning tools to analyze these simulated tissues, they are able to identify the cells and regulatory processes that promote immune tolerance.

The $10,000 prize encourages Dr. Vento-Tormo and her lab to continue their groundbreaking work using innovative technological advancements in medical research.

The Michelson Philanthropies & Science Prize for Immunology is a $30K Grand Prize and $10K Finalist Prizes awarded annually to support promising early career investigators focused on transformative research in human immunology, with trans-disease applications to accelerate vaccine and immunotherapeutic discovery.

The 2024 Michelson Prizes will look for research aimed at tackling the current roadblocks that exist in human vaccine development and expanding our limited understanding of key immune processes that are fundamental to successful vaccine and immunotherapy development.
